Melanie Acon, MA, IBCLC, Founder

I am currently offering in-home and virtual consultations in the Western Pittsburgh region.

My journey toward opening a private lactation consulting practice began many years ago, rooted in my own experience as a new mother. When I struggled to breastfeed my first child, I found myself with minimal support and faced countless obstacles throughout the 12 months I nursed him.

When he turned one, I remember exhaling deeply and thinking, “No one should have to go through that alone.” That moment sparked a calling in me—to become part of the solution for the many families who lack adequate lactation support.

In 2017, I began pursuing my certification through Pathway II to IBCLC at Union Institute and University. There, I earned a Master of Arts in Health and Wellness with a concentration in Human Lactation. As part of my training, I completed hundreds of hours serving families in a variety of settings: providing care to inpatients immediately after delivery, offering prenatal education and consultations, supporting NICU families, and—my favorite—working with outpatients in the community.

After becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I founded Bee Nourished Lactation Services to offer compassionate, evidence-based support to families in need.

I whole-heartedly believe that every breastfeeding journey is unique. I know this firsthand, having breastfed four children—each experience different from the last. Some were challenging; others came with ease. This perspective allows me to meet each client exactly where they are. Together, we’ll create personalized, realistic care plans based on your goals and your family’s individual needs.

I live in Beaver County, PA with my husband and our four children. Outside of work, I enjoy indoor gardening, pottery, and exploring the Pittsburgh area with my family.

Lactation Consultation Cancellation, Rescheduling & Late Policy

You are eligible for a refund if you cancel your consultation at least 24 hours before your appointment time. All refunds will be charged a 10% deduction for fees charged to the business to process the refund. In the event of needing to reschedule your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours before your appointment time. Rescheduling requests within the 24 hour period before the consultation will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Cancellations within the 24 hour period before the consultation time are not eligible for refunds. No shows are treated as cancellations and are not eligible for refunds.

When you book a consultation time, you are securing time with your IBCLC. Your IBCLC sets aside 60-90 minutes of her time and likely has appointments before and after your appointment. To keep our practice running smooth and to respect our other clients the following will apply if you are running late or are not ready on time: The amount of time you are late will come out of your time slot. Your appointment will still end at the same time, regardless of the time you arrive or are ready. For example: If your appointment is allotted 60 minutes and your appointment time is at 2:00pm but you do not arrive or are not ready until 2:20pm, then your appointment will be shortened to 40 minutes and the end time will remain 3:00pm.
